FACILITY RULES

Safety Rules and Code of Conduct for All Users

At The Island Indoor Skatepark, the safety and well-being of our community is our top priority. These rules are designed to ensure everyone can enjoy our facilities safely and respectfully. Please read and understand these rules before using the skatepark.

1. Mandatory Safety Rules

Safety is non-negotiable at The Island. The following rules apply to ALL users without exception:

1.1 Helmet Requirement

  • Helmets are REQUIRED for everyone - no exceptions, regardless of age or skill level
  • Helmets must be properly fitted and fastened at all times while in the skating area
  • Damaged or improperly worn helmets do not meet this requirement
  • Helmet rentals are available at the front desk if you don't have your own

1.2 Recommended Protective Equipment

While helmets are mandatory, we strongly recommend the following additional protection:

  • Knee pads: Essential for preventing knee injuries during falls
  • Elbow pads: Protect your elbows from scrapes and impacts
  • Wrist guards: Reduce the risk of wrist fractures and sprains
  • Appropriate footwear: Closed-toe skate shoes with good grip (no sandals, flip-flops, or bare feet)

1.3 Equipment Safety

  • Do not use damaged equipment: Check your board, bike, scooter, or skates before each session
  • Loose trucks, cracked decks, worn wheels, or faulty brakes are dangerous
  • Report any facility damage to staff immediately
  • Do not modify park obstacles or equipment

1.4 Respect Difficulty Levels

  • Be honest about your skill level - don't attempt tricks beyond your ability
  • Progress gradually and safely
  • Use the beginner area if you're new to the sport
  • Ask for help or take a class if you're unsure about techniques

2. Code of Conduct

The Island is a community built on respect, support, and positive vibes. We expect all users to follow these behavioral guidelines:

2.1 Snake Rules Explained

"Snaking" is cutting in front of another rider who has priority. It's one of the most important concepts in skatepark etiquette:

  • Wait your turn: If someone is already riding a line or using an obstacle, wait until they finish
  • First to drop has priority: The rider who drops in first has the right of way
  • Communicate your intentions: Make eye contact, call out your line, and be aware of others
  • One rider per obstacle: Don't crowd obstacles - take turns
  • Read the flow: Be aware of where other riders are going and time your runs accordingly
  • Bowl priority: In bowl sections, the rider in the bowl has priority - don't drop in on them

2.2 Respect for Other Riders

  • Treat everyone with courtesy and respect, regardless of their skill level, age, or sport
  • Encourage and support other riders, especially beginners
  • Celebrate progress and cheer on good tricks
  • Share the space - don't monopolize obstacles or areas
  • Keep noise at reasonable levels
  • Respect personal space and belongings

2.3 Zero Tolerance Policy

  • No aggression: Physical violence or threatening behavior will result in immediate expulsion
  • No insults or verbal abuse: Offensive language, slurs, or harassment are not tolerated
  • No bullying: Intimidation, mockery, or exclusionary behavior is prohibited
  • No discrimination: Discrimination based on race, gender, age, ability, or any other factor is strictly prohibited

2.4 Help Fallen Riders

  • If someone falls near you, stop and check if they need help
  • Clear the area to prevent additional collisions
  • Alert staff if someone is injured
  • Know where the first aid kit is located
  • In case of serious injury, do not move the person - call for help immediately
